Teach the language of the dog to children to avoid bites through training PECCRAM
The Dog Awareness Education Program and Bite Accident Risk trains professionals dogs to work with children aged 4 to 10 in schools, recreation centers and educational farms.
Although there are no official statistics, we know that children are the main victims of canine bites , often more serious than in an adult because of their greater fragility. In the United States, for example, 395,000 children between the ages of 1 and 14 were attacked in 2010. The reason they are particularly present in the figures is that they will rarely be suspicious of a doggie. will not know when they should not disturb him and not play with him or when they may stress or even hurt him. There are signs, however, but few know them.
Training to learn the language of the dog
It is to overcome this lack of education in canine language, Chantal Hazard, graduate behaviorist and intervener in animal mediation , launched PECCRAM ( Dog Knowledge Education Program and Bite Accident Risk ). It trains dog professionals (mediators, canine educators, behaviorists, veterinarians, breeders, groomers) so that they intervene, with a dog recognized fit after a health and behavioral evaluation, with children from 4 to 10 years, in schools, leisure centers, canine centers and educational farms throughout France
A great success for a unique initiative
This unique initiative in France was rewarded last year with the "dog in the "city" of the FACCO (Union Chamber of Prepared Pet Food Manufacturers) and since then, 200 trainees have been trained in PECCRAM and many groups of children have been sensitized in all regions
In an effort to expand this education, which could prevent many child injuries, Chantal Hazard hopes to continue and intensify the training of dog professionals and teachers. s so that the 40 000 classes concerned by this awareness can be initiated. The calendar of the next school year is already online and the registrations are a real success.
