Moved by the death of a police dog, she collects money to offer bulletproof vests to her

Protect police dogs with bullet-proof vests. This is the initiative that has just been launched following the death of Jehtro who, like Diesel last November, lost his life on the ground a few days ago. Officiating for the Canton Police Department (Ohio, USA), he received three bullets in the body while intervening for a burglary, saving the lives of several officers. Three bullets that, unfortunately, were fatal to him.

His disappearance caused a lot of emotion there. So much so that a donations campaign was launched to better protect police dogs by equipping them with bullet-proof vests. At the origin of this collection? Beth Philley, a wildlife blogger. She had the opportunity to meet the dog and wanted to act to honor the memory and courage of the missing...

Several thousand dollars raised

It is via a crowdfunding site, GoFundMe , that the young woman then launched her collection project. Originally set at $ 10,000 (€ 9170), it quickly exploded. And indeed, in the space of four days many people have mobilized and it is not less than 31 170 dollars (28571,35 €) that have been collected. Part of the money raised from these donations will allow the other seven dogs from the Canton Police Department to be equipped with new bullet-proof vests; the rest is going to be set aside in a special fund while the ministry decides how to use it.
