General mobilization to rescue a dog trapped in a gulf for several days
Falling into a crater in Ollières (Var) on Saturday, a dog has been stuck for four days now. Firefighters and spelunkers do their best to save his life.
As he hunted alongside his master, a six-year-old Dachshund named Duke fell into a rock cavity, reports Var-Matin . He was spotted by his master - who was looking for him desperately - thanks to a GPS beacon. Since then, everything has been put in place to try to eradicate it from there. But the task turns out to be more complicated than expected for the fire rescue team of the Var: the crevasse in which it fell is blocked by very heavy rocks threatening to fall at any time.
The dog is still alive
With the agreement of the prefecture, the soldiers of the fire sent on the spot a delegation of speleology "mandated for this type of interventions". And the time that it arrives (based in Toulon, it is actually a hundred kilometers from the scene of the accident), they took the opportunity to ensure the health of the animal through a mini camera .
Stuck in a crater estimated at 1.5 m deep, the dog seems to be well. He gives voice to be heard and is fed and hydrated through a 5-meter pipe.
Two passages for a rescue
For now, he is still trapped in rubble . But he should not be late. "We have set up two actions : we are trying to make our way from the top. In addition, another team specializing in underground environments is trying to make a well that would create access on the other side, "said Lieutenant-Colonel Pasquini SDIS cited by the foundation 30 Million Friends .
