Animal abandonments up by 21% this summer, the main dogs are victims...

like every year in summer, the animal shelters face as well as badly the bursts of abandonment. The beginning of the summer period 2016 was no exception to the rule, as deplored by the SPA (Society for the Protection of Animals)...

Between 1 and June and 1 er July of this year, 1791 animals were abandoned *. Among them, 958 dogs and 937 cats. A particularly painful beginning of the summer, since drop-outs, dogs and cats combined, are 21% higher than in summer 2015. dogs are the first victims of summer abandonments 2016 with strong recorded increase of 53% over the month (833 in 2016 against 543 in 2015)

Adoptions up

A sad statement slightly mitigated by good news: the SPA found a 16% increase in the number of adoptions over the same period. Thus, 1372 dogs (vs. 1173 in 2015) and 1049 cats (vs. 914 in 2015) were able to find a new home. They are still (too) numerous to expect the person or persons who will be able to make a place for them at home; all the more so since many French refuges have already reached their maximum reception capacity ...

Of the 5062 animals entered in SPA refuges in June 2016, it there are 2641 to adopt , dogs and cats combined. The opportunity to enjoy the second part of the summer to adopt a companion on all fours! If you feel ready to spend many beautiful years with an animal and responsible enough to take care of it, do not hesitate to download the application Adopt Me which facilitates the adoption of animals in a refuge or consult our section Adoption !
